Dear Readers,

This is the third Sunday of the month and hence I will be writing about orders and decisions by the Executive. Today I will write about two orders from the government of Karnataka and one from Maharashtra.

Karnataka Government

IT Companies Not mandated To Open Offices

On Thursday the Karnataka government said it will not ask IT companies to open office spaces and that the work from home arrangement that is currently in place may continue for a few more months due to prevailing Covid-19.

Leftist Analysis:

Leftism is an ideology which propounds the belief that the government should prioritise the health of the citizens over economic growth.

Not mandating IT offices to open to prevent people from being infected with the novel-coronavirus means that the government is prioritising the health of the citizens over the economic growth of the state.

Therefore this is a Left-wing decision.

Rightist Analysis:

Rightism is an ideology that the government should prioritise the economic growth of the state over the health of the citizens.

Not mandating IT offices to open to prevent people from being infected with the novel-coronavirus means that the government is prioritising the health of the citizens over the economic growth of the state.

Therefore this is not a Right-wing decision.

Authoritarian Analysis:

Authoritarianism is an ideology that the government should control the economic activities.

Not allowing IT offices to open up is a way for the government to control an economic activity.

Therefore this is an Authoritarian decision.

Libertarian Analysis:

Libertarianism is an ideology that the government should not control the economic activities.

Not allowing IT offices to open up is a way for the government to control an economic activity.

Therefore this is not a Libertarian decision.

My Analysis:

I disagree with this decision. I do not believe that the disease of Covid-19 is so dangerous that we have to prevent anyone from getting it. It has now become established in our lives. The virus will continue circulating amongst people until the majority of the population develops immunity to it. 99.5% of people won’t die from it.

Having offices shut reduces efficiency of companies and businesses. Businesses which are dependent on offices such as restaurants and canteens suffer due to a lack of customers from these offices. This hurts economic growth.

Therefore I believe that this is a wrong decision.

This is an Authoritarian, Left-wing decision.

Karnatake Government

New Years Eve celebrations banned on Brigade Road and MG Road

The Karnataka government on Friday announced that public gatherings for New Years celebrations will be banned on Brigade Road and MG Road. The state government said that other public gatherings for New Year celebrations would be strictly limited.

Leftist Analysis:

Leftists believe that the government should prioritise the health of the citizens over social activities.

This order prioritises the health of the citizens over the social activity of celebrating.

Therefore this is a Left-wing order.

Rightist Analysis:

Rightists believe that the government should prioritise social activities over the health of the citizens.

This order prioritises the health of the citizens over the social activity of celebrating.

Therefore this is not a Right-wing order.

Authoritarian Analysis:

Authoritarians believe that the government should control the social activities of the citizens.

This order controls the social activity of the citizens.

Therefore it is an Authoritarian order.

Libertarian Analysis:

Libertarians believe that the government should not control the social activities of the citizens.

This order controls the social activity of the citizens.

Therefore it is not a Libertarian order.

My Analysis:

I disagree with this order. People have a right to assemble under Article 19(1) of the Constitution and this violates that right. As I’ve said before this disease is not dangerous enough to warrant these restrictions. After such a difficult year people should be allowed to celebrate its end.

Therefore I believe that this is a wrong order.

It is an Authoritarian Left-wing Order.

Maharashtra Government

Trupti Desai banned from entering Shirdi

Trupti Desai, an activist, was banned from entering the city of Shirdi by the Maharashtra Government on Tuesday. Trupti Desai had earlier objected to a notice put in the premises of Shri Saibaba Temple Shirdi requesting the “devotees to wear traditional Indian or civilised attire” and had threatened to remove it from its premises. Therefore she was banned from entering the city.

Leftist Analysis:

Leftists believe that the government should change religious practises of people.

This order does not allow Trupti Desai to challenge the religious practise of the temple. It prevents the tradition of the temple from changing.

Therefore it is not a Left-wing Order.

Rightist Analysis:

Rightists believe that the government should preserve religious practises of people.

This order does not allow Trupti Desai to challenge the religious practise of the temple. It preserves the tradition of the temple from changing.

Therefore it is a Right-wing Order.

Authoritarian Analysis:

Authoritarians believe that the government should be allowed to ban its citizens from entering any part of its territory.

The city of Shirdi comes under the territory of the Maharashtra Government. This order bans Trupti Desai, an Indian citizen from entering it.

Therefore it is an Authoritarian Order.

Libertarian Analysis:

Libertarians believe that the government should be allowed to ban its citizens from entering any part of its territory.

The city of Shirdi comes under the territory of the Maharashtra Government. This order bans Trupti Desai, an Indian citizen from entering it.

Therefore it is not a Libertarian Order.

My Analysis:

I partially agree and partially disagree with this order. I agree with this order because it prevents Desai from interfering in the traditions of the temple. I disagree with it because it prevents her from entering the city.

I think it would have been better to just ban her from entering the Sri Sai Baba temple but to allow her to enter the city.

This is an Authoritarian Right-wing Order.

Conclusion:

The first two orders are related to Covid-19. They are left-wing orders passed by a government ruled by the BJP which is often called a right-wing party. These orders prove that economically it is a left-wing party. But less left-wing then the opposition parties like the Congress. It’s right-wing nature is due to its cultural conservatism.

The last order is right-wing which is passed by a coalition government consisting of two left-wing parties called the Congress and NCP, and one right-wing party called the Shiv Sena. This shows that on matters relating to Hindu culture, the Shiv-Sena will have more say than the other two.

Thank you for reading.
