Farm Bill

Dear Reader,

Today is the first Sunday of the month and so I will be writing about legislation. Usually, I would write about three Bills or Acts from either Parliament or/and the State Legislatures. But only two legislatures were in session, the Chattisgarh and Rajasthan Legislatures. They both passed two similar bills so I will just write about one of them.

Rajasthan State Legislature:

Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill

It also says that no farming agreement will be valid unless the price paid for such agricultural produce is equal to, or greater than, the prevailing Minimum Support Prices, announced by the Central Government for that crop.

Leftist Analysis:

Leftists believe that the government should have control over the prices of products. This is to prevent them from being too expensive or too cheap.

This Bill will prevent a farmer from selling a product below the Minimum Support Price set by the government.

It encourages the government to control the price at which products are sold.

Therefore it is a Left-wing Bill.

Rightist Analysis:

Rightists believe that the government should not have control over the prices of products.

This Bill will prevent a farmer from selling a product below the Minimum Support Price set by the government.

It encourages the government to control the price at which products are sold.

Therefore it is not a Right-wing Bill.

Authoritarian Analysis:

Authoritarians believe that the government should control the economic activities of the citizens.

This Bill will allow the government to control the price of goods sold by farmers.

It therefore, allows the government to control the economic activities of the citizens.

Therefore it is an Authoritarian Bill.

Libertarian Analysis:

Libertarians believe that the government should have no control over the economic activities of the citizens.

This Bill will allow the government to control the price of goods sold by farmers.

It therefore, allows the government to control the economic activities of the citizens.

Therefore it is an Authoritarian Bill.

Conclusion:

I disagree with this bill. I believe that farmers should be able to sell their produce at any price that they want. This is an Authoritarian Left-wing Bill.
